NOVASURE

Heavy periods are not just inconvenient; they are unwelcome disruptions to daily life. NovaSure is designed to reduce or eliminate uterine bleeding by removing the endometrium (the uterine lining) through a process called ablation.

This non-hormonal treatment is minimally invasive and involves a small device through the cervix and into the uterus where radio frequency energy essentially dissolves the endometrium, then the device is removed. The procedure only takes a few minutes, can be completed in our offices, and most discomfort, if any, is limited to mild cramping.

NovaSure is not suitable for women who still wish to become pregnant. Bleeding typically subsides or ceases altogether within a few weeks.

MYOSURE

Uterine fibroids, polyps, and excess endometrial tissue can cause pain, discomfort, heavy or abnormal bleeding, and even negatively impact fertility. Just a few years ago, removing such tissue involved invasive surgery and a high risk of unwanted side effects.

The MyoSure technology is different. Depending on the type of tissue to be removed, an advanced, patented surgical instrument or instruments are inserted through the cervix into the uterus along with a tiny camera scope the physician uses to see the inside of the uterus. The removed tissue is suctioned through the same instrument. Most procedures are completed in about 30 minutes, in our offices, with no additional surgical recovery required. Symptoms related to excess endometrial tissue often resolve within a few weeks to a few months.

HYSTEROSCOPY

Named for Hystero (relating to the uterus) and Scope (to see), the hysteroscopy procedure is meant to help aid in diagnosis various women’s health conditions in a minimally invasive manner. A very small camera is inserted on a wand through the cervix and into the uterus, where the physician can evaluate various areas for signs of abnormality, injury, or other ailments. This is often the first step before other procedures.

LEEP

When a pap smear comes back abnormal due to human papilloma virus (HPV) causing a pre-cancerous area on the cervix, the first course of treatment is to remove the precancerous cells before they become a greater health concern. The Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP) uses a very thin wire that is heated by electrical current to carefully and precisely remove tissue from the external cervix and vaginal walls as needed. Tissues are then sent to the lab for further analysis.

The heated instrument seals the incision as it works, minimizing bleeding and post-treatment swelling. Although the procedure can be completed in our offices or on an outpatient basis, there can be post-treatment discomfort. Usually an over-the-counter pain relief medicine like Tylenol or Advil is enough to overcome any post procedure pain.

COLPOSCOPY

Just like a hysteroscopy visually examines the inside of the uterus, a colposcopy examines the surfaces of the vulva, vagina, and cervix to diagnose or rule out abnormalities. The procedure uses a small magnifying camera to closely evaluate areas of interest, such as the cervix following an abnormal Pap smear, or other areas as reported by the patient or discovered during routine preventive care or other exam. Suspicious tissues are collected via biopsy and sent for further
evaluation.
